Today's Istanbul. Women struggle in the conservative society where Ottoman culture is the new fashion. An unexperienced Aylin tries to get an audition for a concubine role on TV. Frida wants to perform in public but can’t overcome panic attacks. Lale fights to keep her theater alive despite economic and cultural pressure. Their stories intersect at Lale’s acting course.
PRESENT TENSE
‘Present Tense’ tells the story of Mina, a young unemployed woman who lives in Istanbul and takes a job reading fortunes in coffee cups to find a way to start a new life. Belmin Söylemez’s first feature film won the prestigious New Director’s Prize at the 56th San Francisco International Film Festival.
